By using runtime: nodejs16 in app.yaml, google will throw an error saying ERROR: (gcloud.app.deploy) INVALID_ARGUMENT: Error(s) encountered validating runtime. Runtime nodejs16 is end of support and no longer allowed. Please use the latest Node.js runtime for App Engine Standard. This is according to the lifecycle docs https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/standard/lifecycle/support-schedule#nodejs which states that Node js 16 is no longer supported since 2024-01-30, changing the version to 18 or higher fixes this.
