We already to do some exploratory queries to list projects, subjects in a project. But their outcomes are not accessible in structured form.

What about implementing xnat-query that supports a limited, predefined set of queries (namely the ones we have to do support anyways), and its only purpose being to report their result in structured datalad result records?

This became xnat-query-files now and a basic implementation is merged -- lacking sensible docs.
