In a recent workshop at least one learner could not use OpenRefine because it was blocked by Microsoft Defender Smart Screen. As they didn't have administrative rights on the computer, it wasn't possible to (temporarily) disable that software to circumvent the block. As this was an online workshop, there was little we could do in the moment.

I think the setup instructions should be updated to warn about these additional blocks. The instructor notes should warn instructors that the current workarounds may not be enough.
The OpenRefine maintainers are very aware that running the application is hard: https://openrefine.org/blog/2022/09/30/windows-macos-packaging.html links to the underlying issues for MacOS and Windows.

Alternatively, having an online environment available may provide a temporary solution for last-minute problems. I have worked with a MyBinder-hosted OR before, although it requires regular activity (every 20 minutes I think) or the environment will be shutdown.

Note that #129 also asks to update setup instructions.

And #109 also covers installation instructions for Windows, so it might be worthwhile to combine the updates.

I rephrased the sentences in the setup page that more or less warn about the need for administrative rights when anti-malware software blocks OpenRefine. I also made it a callout. Furthermore I added a link to the official installation instructions, in case learners want more information than the setup page provides.

I think this is good enough for now. If noone objects, I will merge this on Monday.
