I just walked left and right in the first level and this happened. The game is scrolling left and right, not diagonally.
(rom is a Spider-Man themed hack of Ninja Gaiden 2, but this should occur in the real game too.)

The mapping in NG2 is messed up more than this if you keep playing, this is just immediately noticeable.
