Nodes and links rendering under nested groups

Current (buggy) behaviour

When loading my graph, nodes and links of nested groups are rendered behind the groups boxes, this does not appear to happen in the compound demos on the Cytoscape JS page so it is probably something I am doing wrong but I am stuck on where to look.
The nodes and links are all being added at the same time, and the data array being added is even sorted with all nodes first then links.

Desired behaviour

This is how that graph should look, which is attained by collapsing and expanding the group. (I have the expand-collapse extension which I don't think should be causing the issue as the data loads normally - uncollapsed)

I have tried updating to 3.26 to see if something in there fixed the issue, but no changes
