Region Descriptors #19
Comments
Excellent idea, @rcwwilliams! One issue I could see with this was figuring out all the different terms - we know of the common ones of course, but many countries have divisions other than states, provinces, counties etc. Hmm... |
Thanks for the response Ben I know this is Wikipedia, but might be a starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_administrative_divisions_by_country Might also have some useful links for some countries without regions in your excellent data set. Robin |
Has any progress been made to this? I too am interested in this. Would be very useful for the dropdown. For example, American users are not used to selecting "Select Your Region" from a dropdown, that is not at all a common way of describing your State and I think most people would be confused by this label, so if we could dynamically change the label that would be great. Might even be a good starting point just to get the common ones in there and default the less common ones to "region" |
To be clear, I'd be willing to contribute to this as best I can. |
Sites using Shopify's checkout form are able to dynamically update the region input based on the country input like https://www.tluxe.com/ as an example. (You need to add an item to the cart and go to the checkout stage to see an example) |
@goddamnyouryan have you made any attempts to contribute? |
See issue #124 for descriptors for top 14 countries for our users. |
Hi
It would be really great if this data contained descriptors for the region for each country - e.g. State for USA, County for UK, Province for Canada.
Is that viable or is there another dataset somewhere that has that info?
Thanks very much
Robin
