Hinge Dimensions/Information

**Chassis Material Information

Different parts of the chassis use different cores. The bulkhead and baseplate is made with a divinycell core. Every other part has a soric core. The weight calculations for the door’s weight is based on the density of impregnated soric core since the weight of carbon fiber is negligible. We use a 3 mm SF3 soric core. For CEV, one layer of core and two layers of carbon fiber is used for layups. 

**Door weight and size:

  • Size (Area Estimate using a Square): 3558 cm^2 , 0.3558 m^2
  • Thickness: 8 mm, 0.008 m
  • Density of Impregnated Soric Core: 600 kg/m^3
  • Volume:  0.00285 m^3
  • Mass: 1.71 kg
  • Height: 95 cm, 0.95 m

**Number of hinges:

  • 2 hinges per door

**Hinge Placement:

For a typical residential door, hinges are placed 5 to 7 inches from the top edge and 10 to 12 inches from the bottom edge. The height of a typical residential door is 80 inches.
