Weight in cart

The shipping cost is not calculated with the weight of the gift product.(Gift product weights 0)

I'm not sure it will be possible, the gift product is added when discount total is collected and I believe shipping comes before.

Ok, but the weight of product should be passed, i have in my cart a container that shows the actual weight of order and free product weights nothing. 0 price(correct) and 0 weight(not correct).

Ok, i saw in sales_flat_quote_item and the row_weight column is 0.000 so i update the code as follow

$quoteItem = Mage::getModel('sales/quote_item')->setProduct($product);
$quoteItem->setQuote($quote)

and now the row_weight in table has the right weight but in front end the weight is not updated......YET!

I had the following line to test:
$quote->getShippingAddress()->setWeight($quote->getShippingAddress()->getWeight() + $quoteItem->getRowWeight());

and now the quote is updated and shipping is calculated correctly, but in last step of checkout the shipping is reseted and removed from total...

Anyone working on this??? This is a priority issue and i consider a bug, because you can lost a lot of money if you offer a very heavy weighted product....

I don't consider it a bug because the purpose of the module is to add free items. The customer cannot choose to remove the free product.
If a customer doesn't want the gift they can just ignore it, they won't care. But if they are forced to pay more without an option to opt out they will be unhappy.

Hi, But customer has an option...just cancel the coupon.
I explain, i'm in Portugal and sell to Brasil, and if the order weight <= 2Kg the shipping cost are 30$ and if order weight > 2kg < and < 3Kg is 40$, so, if i offer a free gift to customer and it's order with the free gift pass the 2Kg i'm offering the product plus 10$ in shipping.
And as i show in previous comments, this situation is possible because i made it, but i have a issue in last step that the shipping is removed from total...
Can you point me in good direction?

I would look into Mage_Sales_Model_Quote_Address_Total_Shipping. See the last part in the collect() method. It looks like after setting the weight you have to collect shipping rates again and set the rate of the current method:

Hi, did anyone get a solution to the weight of the free products coming through with the order? Our client also sets shipping based on weight and this dictates the number of boxes that should be used for the order, so we need to ensure that the weight of the free items is added to the order.
