New Student Guide
The following is a guide for new students to get started on the New DBMS project (formerly known as Peloton).
To get started on the source code, first follow System Setup instructions. Then follow the Building Terrier instructions. You can then look for beginner issues.
Important: Do NOT push new branches to the main cmu-db repository. Fork the repository to your personal account and do all of your development there. See our project guide for Git for more information.
If you are a CMU student that is working with our research group, then please complete the following tasks:
-
Ask Andy to add you to the
peloton-dev
mailing list. This will also subscribe you to the db-seminar mailing list for CMU-DB events. -
Ask Andy to add you to CMU-DB Slack channel. There are three channels relevant to the project:
-
#general
-- The main discussion for the project. Post all development related questions here. -
#random
-- This for random DB / CS / CMU stuff.
-
-
If you need access to the team's testing and development machines, ask Matt Butrovich (on Slack) to create you an account.
Once you have an account, modify your .bashrc:
export http_proxy="http://proxy.pdl.cmu.edu:3128/" export https_proxy="http://proxy.pdl.cmu.edu:3128/"
-
If you want a seat in the 9th floor lab (GHC 9022), please email Jessica Packer (CC Andy) to get a key. Please note that we have a limited number of seats in the lab so not everyone can get a spot. Important: Be sure to return the key before you leave CMU.
