Instance

gts.djs.to (but any instance really)

Browser

Phanpy installed as a PWA on iPad & iPhone

Bug description

When viewing website links via the integrated browser, the "Use Reader Automatically" setting does not have any effect. The setting appears to be remembered, but the in-app browser shows the regular format of the page.

To reproduce

  1. View any post with an embedded URL to a web page that has a working Reader Mode in Safari.
  2. Tap the link to view the site. From the page menu(?) in the address bar, select the "..." button and enable "Use Reader Automaticallty"
  3. Close the browser and return to the regular Phanpy list of posts.
  4. Tap the link again to re-open the page and see if the setting is applied.

Expected behavior

At step 4 I expect to see the web site in reader mode. Unfortunately it does not seem to work and the regular view of the site appears instead.

Other

Reader mode is a great way to remove clutter from many sites and is also a very effective ad blocker.

I have no idea if it is even possible to make this work with a PWA, or if it's an IOS issue rather than an Phanpy issue.

There is a workaround: manually enable reader mode each time a page is visited. It's just a bit annoying to have to do this every time.
