you should mention that one must run it inside kicad command prompt. Then the installation is easy, but it took me some time to find that out. Could you please add this info to avoid other people wasting time?

Well, I didn't run it in the KiCad command prompt; I just used the bundled Python interpreter.

There are prebuilt packages available. I need to make a new release for KiCad 9 though.

Patches are welcome if you are interested in diving deeper.
