If a log message is larger than a UDP package, the underlying syslog handler will fail

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/logging/handlers.py", line 847, in emit
    self.socket.sendto(msg, self.address)
error: [Errno 90] Message too long

A safer option than not logging at all, would be to truncate the message.
