How to display unit-test progress ?

Running unit-test buffers all the program output until the end. How can I stop it from doing the buffering?

You can add a -p3 option when invoking b2. That will skip routing of stdout and stderr through b2. Usual caveat though.. You can get interleaved and partial output with that when running parallel jobs. As it will be up to the test program(s) how it does output and how it does buffering of that output.
