Issue description

USB WiFi adapter stopped working after update from v35 to v40

Detailed reproduction steps

I have a TP Link USB WiFi adapter (TL-WN725N) connected to my Powkiddy A13 running Batocera v35 (2022/09/11) and working fine. I updated to v40 from the main menu on the device. After the update to v40 ( 2024/08/09 ) wifi stopped working. Everything else works ok after the update.

Details of any attempts to fix this yourself

The work-around is to use a USB ethernet adapter which works with v40.

Details of any modifications you have made to Batocera.

I updated from v35 to v40

try this, create a file called r8188eu.conf and in the file type blacklist r8188eu.
save it to /etc/modprobe.d on the powkiddy.
then batocera-save-overlay
finally reboot.

Thanks for the reply; I followed your instructions but unfortunately it still doesn't work; I created another support file (attached). I noticed when there is no internet connection the name of the support file starts with 1980, when I connect the ethernet adapter the support file starts with 2024; The time displayed on the Powkiddy's screen is the correct time (hh:mm) even when the USB wifi is attached.

try to change it to blacklist rtl8188eu, save the overlay & reboot.

I copied boot.tar.xz and boot.tar.xz.md5 to \batocera\share\system\upgrade
I then rebooted; however after the reboot the version displayed is still the old one; the contents of the upgrade directory on board have not changed; Putty SSH output:

Model: Game_Simulator_Board

Architecture: armv7l
Board: powkiddy_a13

[root@BATOCERA /userdata/system]# cd upgrade/
[root@BATOCERA /userdata/system/upgrade]# ls
boot.tar.xz boot.tar.xz.md5
[root@BATOCERA /userdata/system/upgrade]# reboot

From Powkiddy: going to menu->System settings->Information the version displayed is 40o 2024/08/09, so the update didn't seem to have taken place. The wifi USB adapter is not working.

Powkiddy won't boot now, even if I switch it on from the power button, I will flash again the SD card with the original version
batocera-rk3128-powkiddy_a13-35-20220911.img.gz and hopefully it will boot
