The default VolumeSize for the XIO pools is set to 10.
XIO uses this to calculate the IOPs of the EBS volume it creates for the VM and if the volume is larger then the IOPs are too low.
The VolumeSize needs to be at least as large as the root volume in the AMI for the VM Image.
