Is it possible to not depend on `crc` or make it optional?

Hi, thank you so much for building this crate. It’s really great, and I’m glad you made it since I was about to build something similar.

One question I have so far is whether it’s possible to not depend on crc or make it optional? I’m willing to start a PR for this if you think it’s a good idea.

It's an interesting idea. We use the crc crate for two things - a software fallback for cases where there aren't supported hardware intrinsics, and test output validation.

I'm curious about what the desire is for not wanting the crc crate included? In theory, we could add a feature flag that removes it, for example.
