We need to decide on a better, more correct and descriptive name than hipscat. This change should be done definitely before next IVOA meeting (mid November 2024), but we should aim for October 2024 if not earlier.

@fxpineau suggests CatHAGrid:

The rationale is:

  • "CatHAGrid" stands for "Catalogues in Healpix Adaptative Grids"
  • HAGrid is a famous Harry Potter character but, above all, is near from "Agreed"
  • So "CatHAGrid" is both phonetically near from "What a grid!" and from "Cat(alog(s)) Agreed":

The name will be decided during this week meeting in Strasbourg.

After consultation with CDS, IPAC, LINCC Frameworks Principal Investigators, we have decide to proceed with HATS (Hierarchal Adaptive Tiling Scheme).

The advantage of the name is that it is simple, describes accurately what it does and has various domains that we will need are avaliable.

Changes that will enable this name-switch will proceed in next couple of weeks.
