There are two paths on the NFS mount that include assets. We should see if they can be moved to Asset Manager

  • /data/uploads/publisher
  • /data/uploads/support-api

I've asked the following question in the govuk-developers Slack channel:

Hi folks. Who knows about the support-api and publisher directories in the shared asset-master NFS mount (e.g. /data/uploads/support-api/feedex_2018-01-24_2018-01-29_done_change-date-practical-driving-test.csv and /data/uploads/publisher/reports/edition_churn.csv)? We’ve written files to both directories in the last 2 days but I can’t see any public requests for those files in Kibana.

While it would be good to migrate these to Asset Manager if appropriate, I'm not convinced it should be one of our immediate priorities.

Liz L has pointed out that the publisher reports (in /data/uploads/publisher/reports/) are available for download in the publisher admin - https://publisher.publishing.service.gov.uk/reports.

It sounds as though the data in /data/uploads/support-api/ might be generated in feedex and links to it are possibly sent by email. I'm waiting to find out more about this, though.

I think I now understand the data that's written to /data/uploads/support-api/. It's generated when you click "Export as CSV" on a search results page from https://support.publishing.service.gov.uk/anonymous_feedback. An email is sent containing a link to this file which is then served by the AnonymousFeedback::ExportRequestsController in support-api.

In summary, while I can imagine these type of assets being served from Asset Manager at some point, I don't think we need to worry about it anytime soon.

I'm going to move this issue out of the whitehall non-attachment assets milestone (https://github.com/alphagov/asset-manager/milestone/6) as these assets don't have anything to do with whitehall as it turns out.
