Hi @2paragraphs — Apologies for the delay, I'm just getting back from travel. I will look into this and get back to you with my findings. |
Kevin, thank you very much. I'm grateful.

Kevin, thank you again. Adding a screenshot from a post we published today
at Apple News titled "Sharon Stone Cries in Jazz..."
Below is the screenshot that shows -- instead of rendering only white space
as in the previous example -- the Apple News post saying 'Couldn't Load
Content' where the video Instagram embed is placed. Here is the Apple News
link to 2paragraphs (the article is near the top):

And here is the open web article link:

for comparison.
I'm very grateful for any insight and truly appreciate your time and
expertise. Respectfully, Joe

Hi. We received some feedback from Apple News directly, which I include in part below with two screenshots they sent. I'm hopeful this could be helpful. I truly appreciate your help; if you can give me any guidance I will be very grateful. from APPLE: Again many thanks. |
Kevin, thanks again. I wanted to copy another response from the Apple News
operations team that updates the situation.
Please see below. Gratefully, Joe
Hi Joe,
This is Chris from the News Operations team.
Here's some background on the Instagram changes that WordPress had to make
according to Facebook policy:
https://wordpress.org/support/article/instagram-embed/
Apple News currently supports the following URL formats for Instagram posts:
https://www.instagram.com/p/{media-shortcode}
https://www.instagram.com/tv/{media-shortcode}
Apple documentation for reference:
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/apple_news/instagram
Your question comes a a great time, as we are currently implementing
support for "reel" Instagram links in Apple News Format (ANF).
The missing Instagram embed you called out is actually an Instagram "reel"
URL, which later this week will be supported in ANF. In such cases, you can
"copy" the embed from Instagram to determine if it's actually a “reel”,
“p” or “tv" Instagram URL. If so, you should update the
URL accordingly as in this example:
Source:
https://www.instagram.com/p/CjGV9fMJPc1/
Updated:
https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjGV9fMJPc1/
If you are still experiencing a problem, please provide the Instagram URLs
being used in WordPress along with an Apple News Link to the article to
help us investigate.
Thank you,
-chris

Apple today incorporated Reels support. Email below: Good news! The support for Instagram “reel” links went live today. APPLE NEWS FORMAT: INSTAGRAM Users can use Instagram reel URLs. Note: I believe the "News Preview” tool still needs to apply this update, so if you review articles using “News Preview” you may experience an error. However, you should be able to publish to your channel without any problems. Let me know if any other questions come up as you post articles with Instagram embeds. |
Hi, thanks. This plugin is superb.
Our 2paragraphs.com articles look great (thanks) on Apple News -- but any Instagram embed that features video either doesn't show or else it shows up but lacks video capability (no play button, so essentially a still is rendered).
Below is a screenshot of a Wordpress article with an Instagram video embed after the second paragraph. It shows up correctly and is playable. (url: https://2paragraphs.com/2022/10/rebecca-romijn-puts-up-with-husband-jerry-oconnells-mommy-issues-and-cheapness/)
And here is the url of the same post at Apple News (https://apple.news/AYS3wSHEnREOzryJrMjz6pw), where two things happen.
[note: the non-video Instagram embeds in the article show up perfectly in Apple News]
I'm very grateful for your help. You helped me once before recently and gave me a solution in about ten minutes! So thanks again.
Respectfully,
Joe Mackin
