This week, we made progress on multiple fronts, focusing on improving documentation and exploring package distribution options. We enhanced the Vim integration instructions for Darker, addressing a common user experience issue. The documentation now recommends setting the 'autoread' option in Vim (#96), which allows the buffer to automatically reload after Darker modifies the file. This small but significant change should streamline the workflow for Vim users working with Darker.
We also continued our efforts to broaden Darker's accessibility through package management systems. The discussion around creating a Conda package for Darker (#114) progressed, with @akaihola sharing a work-in-progress branch for the conda-forge recipe. Community member @shangxiao provided encouraging feedback, confirming that the initial approach looks promising. the process primarily involves work on the Conda repositories side. The next step will be to submit a pull request to the staged-recipes repository for official review by the conda-forge team.
