Было бы неплохо добавить трактовку дорог с тегами highway=* + side_road=yes как боковых проездов.

Не совсем. Если дорога помечена в 7.7 как "карман", а в программе не стоит галочка "использовать типы дорог: карманы", то через этот проезд не должны объезжаться пробки на основной проезжей части (многим не нравятся такие манёвры).

Но на голосовые подсказки, наверное, метка "карман" тоже влияет.
