The ability for users to highlight objects of interest could be a nice way to point fellow users to a specific object to help bump its observation count. Some reasons why someone might pick a particular object:

  • It hasn't been seen for a long time, i.e. its a "rare find"
  • It is historically significant
  • It was just launched as of yet, the system doesn't have any observations for it

In the app this feature could perhaps live on the homepage or the Catalog view. The ability to upvote/downvote submitted objects for consideration could be helpful to gauge the interest of the community. Perhaps the most upvoted object by the end of the week will become the "Featured Object" for the next week?
