From a high level, it basically switches the item cancel button to basically toggle weapons rather than strictly unselect weapons.
Hold to keep supers/power bombs selected - While you're holding the button, super missiles or power bombs will be selected depending on if you're morphed or not. Releasing will unselect them. I think this is similar to Metroid Fusion from what I recall. If you want to use regular missiles, you'll need just use the regular item select button without holding the item cancel button.
Hold to keep missiles/supers/pbs selected; item select changes weapon - Similar to above, but you can switch what it'll select by default by pressing the item select button while holding down the item cancel button. This is similar to Metroid Zero mission from what I recall.
Press to toggle supers/pbs on or off - So rather than it be a hold, pressing this will enable super missiles or power bombs based on whether you're morphed or not. This basically just saves a couple button presses.
I'm just looking for a better explanation for the item cancel bahavior options
