In a discussion with GeoSoft folks on May 19, 2014, they looked at mklcmat.m and suggested changes that would make it more reusable:

Break the script into three parts: preprocessing, analysis, and postprocessing of filters
Make plate_mass an input instead of defined in the file, since it could vary
Remove the dependencies on operating systems, paths

I'm documenting these suggestions here for others that would want to reuse/modify this script.
