I suppose we should add tech hour tracking. But, personally, I wouldn't mind telling people to use a google doc :)

If we do implement this, I'd propose the following: Every user has a "tech hour account" associated with them. When they get added to a Cast role, that role has a "tech hour price". We can deposit tech hours in their tech hour account and their "tech hour balance" is the account - the prices they have had to pay. This means that users who fail to complete tech hours one show are nagged to complete them the next show, and users who are really helpful can get a tech hour surplus which they can cash in on another show.

Thoughts?

The assumption is that every user has a "hidden" account that has a default balance of 0 or null tech hours? Why can't we integrate the tech hour values into the already existing accounts? Completion of a tech hour just results in a direct alteration of that value without needing to refer to the respective tech hour account. It might be more work but seems to make more sense to me.

I'm not so sure about the surplus. If we put on a show that requires more work in the future, a surplus of tech hours would just mean less work being done on that show, and thus an inconsistent number of hours we can expect from actors helping out on tech. Labor budgets would be more difficult, maybe. I do like the roll-over, though, and I thought the old system of a completing certain number of hours over the required tech hours lets an actor be included as a crew member seemed reasonable too.

No, what I'm proposing is exactly what your are saying. By "tech hour account" all I mean is a value that we can add to and subtract from associated with their user account.
