Rob: All of the links to your old ReadTree have disappeared from what I can tell, but have you wrapped it into tree-tools somehow? I have a critical need to convert a huge word docx into opml and pandoc does not work with perfection. I will try to figure out tree-tools, but if there is a more direct route with ReadTree, then I would like to try it as well.

Also, there is a super tree coming that you should be aware of: I just received a patent on an 'ontology' to forest structuring that has many ramifications. In fact, we are looking for a trove of developers for it.

Thx

ReadTree.app.zip

ReadTree.app is a very old thing which I wrote in RealBasic and haven't tested with recent versions of MS Office for OS X.

If it works (you are welcome to try)

  1. Have an outline open in a Word doc
  2. Run ReadTree.app and look for its menu (no splash screen)
  3. Try File > Import > Active Word Outline

Possible that you may then seen an OPML listing which you can save.

Good luck !

Just tried it. Seemed to work if you choose:

File > Import > Plain Text of Active Word Outline

and then save from the outline view which appears.

No guarantees of anything at all though, and I don't have a RealBasic compiler now :-)

Rob: Now that I have seen your name a few times, I am very curious whether you might like to get onto a project with some real (maybe really huge) value. The patent above is the 'base' - and as one of our patent attorneys stated, it is the first patent application ever seen by him or any of his 'list' where the examiner actually expanded the scope (by eliminating limitations) and even said that the scope could still be expanded more. It is the first patent where a 'failed' associative search causes value creation, and the first for mapping concepts by crowdsourcing to establish a base for prediction (especially Bayesian) and modeling. I see from your work on applescript, and MD, and Scrivener, and ... that you have the sort of talent we are looking for. Pls consider, Thx Dennis
