Transparency in sprite projectiles from magic spells not working #11

Instead of rendering transparency they have a solid black color and red ring in the center.
Pick up the first magic spell as a necromancer in the first level of the base game to see what I mean.

I've read somewhere that the solid black color might be due to an issue with the last official patch 1.11.
Same issue is present in the source port Hammer of Thyrion on PC.

Update:
Did some more digging into this and it turns out that it is/could be a combination of the assets themselves and the engine code.
I installed the retail original game on PC and used nGlide to run it on Win 10. Patching it to version 1.11 the projectiles have the same issue as in this port. Re-installing the original and patching it to 1.09 and the issue is almost entirely gone. Almost entirely transparent projectiles where they should be transparent. Re-installing once again and only swapping the pak files make the same difference; 1.11 pak files = broken projectiles, 1.09 = almost fixed. Swapping the pak files in this vita port and Hammer of Thyrion however makes no difference.
