I am using the latest insider's version on Raspian Bullseye. I have disabled the onboard wifi adapater in the boot config and am using an external adapter. It is an rtl8852bu chipset and I have the driver installed.

iw list shows that the adapter is capable of 802.11ac.

RaspAP defaults to 802.11n and works fine there. But if I try to change it to A or AC, it will not populate the the channel fields. For the purposes of testing I chose US as the country. 
Hostap logging doesn't show any issues:

The rtl8852bu chipset is in a class of USB WiFi adapters with Linux "out-of-kernel" drivers. I have no personal experience with this adapter and do not have the hardware, so can't really advise you here. Sorry.

I figured this out. I had security set to WPA3 Personal. If that is chosen, the adapter won't work as an AC. So I bought an Alfa and tried that with the in kernel driver. Same thing. The end result was that I had to lower security to WAP2/3 Transitional for AC to appear.
