Strengthen the immediate association of the user with the protagonist ship by the following animation:
When the user clicks "New Game", let a Protagonist spaceship fly out of the very "New Game"-button - the whole menu fades away, while the protagonist spaceship makes a turn and flies into start position (meanwhile the space MapGenerator has brought up the space background). Then once protagonist ship has flown into position, enable control of the Protagonist spaceship with mouse/arrow-controls.
This animation should only take like 2 seconds.
