What is this event about?
+
The PrestaShop Developer Conference empowers the developer community within the PrestaShop ecosystem. Whether you’re an expert or just starting out, this conference provides a platform to share your knowledge, gain insights, and network with peers. It’s also a place to learn more about the open source community and how attendees can better contribute.
+
How different will the second PrestaShop Developer Conference be?
+
Last year saw the first PrestaShop Developer Conference taking place in Paris. This year, the second edition promises to have technical talks and demonstrations, to learn about PrestaShop technology through engaging sessions and demos. You will be able to share your knowledge, by submitting your own talks to present your innovations and experiences at the event.
+
A special focus will be put on talks regarding larger online stores and bigger merchants as well as case studies about scaling PrestaShop.
+
Call for presentations: speak during the event and show your expertise.
+
For this year’s conference, we are interested in hearing from you and what you might want to present during the event. You will have the choice between talks in French and in English. We welcome presentations on all topics related to PrestaShop development, with particular interest in:
+
+
Module and theme development with best practices and insights for module and theme development.
+
Performance optimization to include strategies for improving performance, user experience and loading times.
+
Solutions for developers where innovative tools and solutions help the development process.
+
New PrestaShop features, leveraging recent additions to PrestaShop for engaging solutions.
+
Security best practices that will help ensure the security of stores.
+
Deployment - CI/CD, with best practices for seamless deployment in a CI/CD environment.
+
+
To submit your presentation, fill out the submission form. The deadline for submission is September 9, 2024.
+
Join us on November 6, 2024, for a day of knowledge-sharing, networking, and inspiration. During the event, elevate your skills and contribute to the PrestaShop community.

Obviously. We met in 2007, united by two passions: e-commerce and open source. We got to know each other, shared some laughs, often dreamt together—with some groans thrown in—while continuing to love each other. Together, we created with the goal of meeting the e-commerce needs of each country.

With PrestaShop 1.7, theme designers have the choice to either start their work from scratch, rework the Classic theme, or build upon the foundations laid by the Starter Theme. Based on feedback from our community, we want to improve the Starter Theme into something that fits them best.

A long time ago, in a galaxy not so far away, we packed PrestaShop with much needed functionalities in its core. The aim was to propose the best ecommerce solution, with the biggest functional scope, answering to almost all of the merchants’ needs — all that while still being free.

If you’ve ever tried to create a PrestaShop theme from scratch, you might have noticed it requires quite a large skillset: not only must you know HTML, CSS and Smarty, but you also need to be very familiar with the inner workings of PrestaShop itself. There is a lot of business logic going on in the templates, it is hard to tell apart classes that are used for styling from classes that are used by JavaScript-powered features, etc.

One year ago, the QA team started to develop a new test framework, based on Puppeteer, Mocha, and Chai. You can read more about the framework in this previous article: The (new) PrestaShop Test Framework. Since then, the tests coverage has been continually increasing, and we recently improved our framework by switching to Playwright.
This post is the first of a new kind. We decided to open up more with you about technical questioning and decisions for the PrestaShop project. This one is about generated asset files.

Announcing end of official support for less popular modules

Over the years, the PrestaShop project became host and maintainer for a very large number of open source modules. Last year, over 160 of them were present in our GitHub organization. As you probably know already, maintaining them requires a lot of work, and the maintainer team’s resources are limited. Proof of this is that some of these modules have not been updated in years.
