Hey guys I'm new here, very new actually and I don't even know much about YAML, but I'm learning. I wanted to add a regional app to the fire tv remote on home assisant. I have it installed on my fire tv and I can navigate to it using the buttons/remote. I can't find it in the drop down selection on home assistant, so I wonder how i can add it? The app is Jio Cinema.

A great place to start is the Firemote ReadMe page. You should be able to find answers to most of your questions there. If your questions can't be answered there, the Firemote wiki is also an excellent resource! It covers a little bit more than the readme does.

This is a great question that comes up a lot. Because it's asked so frequently, there is a section in the Firemote ReadMe for FAQ (frequently asked questions) that explains the process: I want a shortcut button for an app I use frequently, but it's not on the list. Can it be added? (pictured here)

Since you mentioned that you aren't comfortable yet with using YAML, I would be more than happy to add this button for you. Simply open a new app shortcut request, and I'll take it from there!

Hi Thanks for getting back to me! I submitted a request but honestly I don't trust myself that I did it correctly?

I'm very sorry I'm super new to this and just trying to learn and impress my wife :)

Another thing I wanted to ask was in the compatibility mode i had to choose stronger slower because if I choose the first option, the side buttons (to go left right, up down) doesn't work, but with stronger slower mode that works? It's quite slow however. This is the firestick model that I have.

These are awesome goals! I will do my best to help answer your questions so that you can learn, but I am also going to hold back on giving the answers right away. I'm hoping that if I can point you in the right direction, you can find the answers and learn for yourself along the way. How does that sound? We must impress that wife of yours! She sounds great!

The model number s3l46n printed on the back of your Firestick brought me to this helpful page. This page's information says that you either own the Fire TV Stick Lite 1st Gen (2020) or the Fire TV Stick 3rd Gen (2020).

Once you determine which of those devices you own, I suggest reading the Why don't any of the buttons on the Firemote work at all? section in the Firemote readme's FAQ section.

Glad you told me about the issues with the firestick 4K and 4K max, those
we're the devices that I was looking at getting and now will hold on
getting them. The current firestick runs fine, just a bit slow, especially
when it first starts.

I'm glad you mentioned which new models you were looking at! That could have been a big letdown for you!

If you are still interested in upgrading your media player to something newer that is also supported by Firemote, you can check out this list to see what's available.

I also noticed that when it first starts and if I try to use the firemote
card to control it, it won't allow me to navigate, however if I use my
physical remote and press a left or right button for example and then use
the card, it works fine. Not sure if this is my error or a known thing.

This is a known thing. I already linked to it earlier in this discussion when I suggested that you read the FAQ article Why don't any of the buttons on the Firemote work at all?.

Oh I also wanted to ask if it was possible to build out my own card?

For example if I only wanted the app launchers, the navigation part and the
volume and home part?

Firemote allows for you to change the remote style you see on your dashboard by choosing anything from the Remote Style list:

What you are describing is close to App Launcher 2. I suggest trying that one to see if it does what you are looking for.

Can I ask a couple of things from you?

1. I'm happy to answer your questions, but many of your questions have already been answered by me in our own conversations or in the provided Firemote documentation before you even asked them. When answering questions, I typically provide links to the documentation but it's difficult for me to tell if you actually click on them and read what's written there. I humbly ask, before asking your next question, could you please first check to see if your question already been addressed in a previous reply, the Firemote README, or the Firemote Wiki? There is a lot of information in those places, and it does answer most questions.
