I heard a user complaint yesterday that the landing page made it unnecessarily hard to find all our material. learn.ots and python.ots are not linked at all and ots/material is hidden in a collection of links in the footer.

I just added fed1d87

People welcome to comment if it should be changed to material.html, I am of two minds about that. It seems material.html and learn.opentechschool.org are duplicating information somewhat, and will naturally lead to one or the other being out of date. For now I believe it's better to maintain learn.opentechschool.org and prominently link to that.

I don't really get the point of learn.opentechschool.org. Why is that a separate site and code-base for a one-pager that could easily just be a page on www.opentechschool.org?

Created #227 for that.

I think the part about the code base could be helped with using git-submodules, not necessarily by getting rid of subdomains.

@lehmannro Could you describe the benefit of subdomain + git submodules? I don't understand.

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear:

  • Subdomains are just a personal preference for me. I think having a dedicated python.opentechschool.org or learn.opentechschool.org is much easier to memorize than www.opentechschool.org/material.html. It also gives us the ability to do nice namespace redirects, such as python.opentechschool.org/beginners.
  • git-submodules would allow us to keep all of the abovementioned benefits, while maintaining only one code base.
