Gitter also allows a cool widget to be used to add to the homepage to immediately jump into the chat, called sidecar. Should we add that to the website, too?

I'm hesitant here. It's a nice feature but I think it would feel too much like an online community.

I was also thinking to add it to the website.
I think is always good to give more place to learner where they can meet real people. (discourse is not good in this sense)
But, what is exactly the difference between #202 and #201 ?
