Describe the bug

A clear and concise description of what the bug is.

There is no way to enable dark mode in libreoffice. The system mode (GNOME) is set to dark and the settings are set and yet it's still light themed.

Steps To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Open any version of LO
  2. Set Options -> View -> Appearance -> Mode to "Dark"
  3. Observe no change in theme, even upon restart.

Expected behavior

A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

It should "just work".

Screenshots

If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Hmm, seems to be broken indeed on X11, but annoyingly it doesn't complain about anything

Interesting, I'm on GNOME Wayland. I'll try it on sway.

My X11 testing is with a minimal WM (no DE and no X11 compositor)

I noticed a similar complaint in another issue:

#298926 (comment)

This is because GTK3 has obscene semantics with respect to how themes load, seemingly -dark makes the theme inapplicable to GTK3 apps, for whatever reason.

(Probably X11-only)

I'm on Wayland (GNOME) and have the same issue as described by OP. My GNOME is set to dark mode, LibreOffice is set to "System". Even after changing LO to "Dark", applying and restarting the theme stays light.
Curiously this only happened after I did my latest update, my current LO version is 7.6.7.2, GNOME is on version 46.
