If we try to add the package via the GitHub link, it will install as a private package, preventing us from opening the demo scenes.

Functionality itself seems to work fine though

Until we fix this pleas download the package from https://github.com/MindPort-GmbH/VR-Builder/releases and import it via Assets->Import Package.

Note: If you have imported the git package you need to remove it first before adding the unity package via Import Package.

We have a internal ticket MP-2669 to move demo scenes / samples similar to how XRI does it. This would fix this issue.

Note: The priority of this is currently quiet low on our side. But we are happy to take community contributions on it.
