Before we can fully release and start advertising and all that we need a Terms of Service that every user must agree to before they are able to interact with the site. Memerator is technically in open public beta for the time being as how we enforce things ultimately comes down to "is this what we want to see on the site" with no way of the end user knowing how we handle things or how we handle their data. In order to make the site official and capable of handling everyone in an unbiased way we need a Terms of Service.
We came out with a Privacy Policy a while ago which states exactly what we do with the information you give us, see privacy policy. We hope you can trust us with your data, and you can choose to not give us anything (besides an email).
To comply with European laws, we must follow GDPR. While we don't have an easy way to 1 click "Delete Account" at this given point in time, we hope to have an easier way to request your data and delete any data you need.
How we plan on handling that:
Request all data on Memerator. Includes every data we store, including personal details and any other details we store like comments, your ratings, etc.
Delete your account. When you delete your account, you'll have the following options
Delete EVERYTHING. Wipes all instances of your data in the databases. Memes, images, ratings, comments, all. (This may take longer to process)
Anonymize all data. Replaces instances of your username with a placeholder name that is not associated with you. All personal data (and ratings) will be removed.
Or a combination of both. (Ratings will ALWAYS be deleted)
If you choose to keep memes, we recommend first transferring them to other users, as when they're deleted, they are put up for adoption for other users who can claim them on request.
That is the plan at least, for now you can send us an email or submit a ticket and we will do this manually.
