This library uses GTAG to load analytics.
Is it possible to add optional support for GTM as well?

I found this npm package and thought the same thing.

It looks like someone has already made a fork of this with GTM, however, it hasn't been updated in 5 months.

I'd be happy to work on making the feature for this repo, as I think it would be valuable for a lot of people.
