This is not a bug. It looks like a WinForms 'feature'. When the drop down box is highilghted clicking on the edge of
the box will show this pop up to delete. A 2nd click while this prompt appears removes the dropdown box and it's
contents. This also happens on speechscript event with dropdown boxes.

Can you suppress this right-click action or at least give it a reality check so it doesn't delete the box?
The right-click also gives access to a context menu which I suspect is not useful in commands editor such as IME.

I know you've got 1M irons in the fire for other parts of the under the hood stuff so this is really minor.
Just reporting it for it to get noticed at some point.
