We have proposed to give an intro to this whole endeavor in the first session, we should use this thread to organize it, jot down ideas and come up with some slides.
I think it would be useful to frame what we are saying around some common terminology, like that provided by NIST's Research Data Framework (RDaF) (or similar), and use that to introduce what kind of interoperability we want to enable at each stage of the cycle.
The RDaF describes the stages:
Envision
Plan
Generate/Acquire
Process/Analyze
Share/Use/Reuse
Preserve/Discard
While a lot of interoperability focuses on doing a shallow version of 5 (common file formats) and 6 (open data repositories), we also want to emphasize the necessity of 3. and 4.
We also want to survey the attendees before the session, so we can get an overview of interests/backgrounds/experience in these areas, and breakout room preferences. I will jot down some ideas for questions in a separate thread.
