Why does VAE module need forward method even though it has _run_step method can cover all the processes in forward?

Hello,
While reading the code of the VAE module, a question arose.

The VAE module have two methods _run_step and forward which are almost same.
So I thought, having _run_step method is enough for the VAE module.
Is there any reason for having forward method?
