I don't have any preference for how it's localized, any method should work fine, especially since there is very little text to translate. |
Suggestion as someone who does a lot of localization for games/international projects: template all the strings now while there are very few of them. That will make addressing future bugs much simpler as text has a tendency to explode in length and break layouts, especially if there's any plan to support (even local) development in Right-to-Left languages like the Semitic Family and certain styles for East Asian scripts. It's easier for others to follow this style rule once it's clear in code, even if there's not policy/build rule to verify it. I'm going to be too busy over the next two weeks with conference and travel obligations to provide an extensive guide on how to do it, but hopefully @zeel-pathak and @JohnEdChristensen can work out the details while I'm busy with presentations. |

translation and localization are different terms of art. Translation means
replacing text with text. Localization means following up a translation
with confirmation that the text makes sense to native speakers and the
intended native speaking audience for an application.
In the case of WebbCompare, an example would be making sure that if you use
SI units in countries that render decimals with “,” not “.”, the pages
still function properly. A famous example of getting this wrong was the
initial release of Pokémon “Brilliant Diamond”/“Shining Pearl”
internationally last year. The day 1 version would not have a functioning
calculator feature if installed in a locale like “UK English” that writes
10.2 if the game session used “EU” languages like German or some other
pas-bays dialects that use “10,2” for the same number of significant
figures.
In that game the calculator was a “minor” feature, but if you are using
eval or other macros to render front end JavaScript written through a pre
processor, this leads to very large bugs like turning ˋ“10.2”/« 10,2 »ˋ
into 10.2/NaN (in IEEE 794) rather than 10.2/10.2 == 1. If you make that
mistake in a rocket, you will have a JPL vs. Mars incident like in the
1990s.

No problem except: in English and other languages with neutral or neuter
case references I am not « man », I am « person » of « unmarried person ».
Difference between « Mme. Jamie » ou « « Ms. Jamie » and « M. Jamie » or «
Mdm. Jamie ». As I only have an AB/Baccl. Arts and not a M.Sci or Ph.D. In
applied hair splitting, I would be « thanks for letting me know » and not
Herr Doctoeur de Jamie ;)
