State of Smooth Scrolling Branch #1027

Hello,
I would like to ask what the current state of development is for this feature #150. Is there are chance it will be made stable so it can be merged into the main branch?
I would really like to use this feature. :)
Otherwise I'm thinking of extracting this feature from the intellij IDEA code, after a first short look it seems doable, or do you have any insights about their implementations that could make this complicated?
