Running Smartedge on Ubuntu VMs

Hello,
I was able to run Intel OpenNESS platform on regular Ubuntu VMs. With SmartEdge, can someone please tell if the provisioning and the target system can be run on VMs (to check how SmartEdge works). Has anyone done that? If yes, it would be great to share the steps to achieve the same.
