It was basically a signup form, which would send a confirmation email to the signing-up person asking them to choose their regional interests.
The new list has GDPR requirements enforced by Mailchimp. The boilerplate "condensed" form still has three checkboxes and two paragraphs, in addition to the email address and button:
If they want, we can put one of these forms on the page next to the full-size subscribe form seen in #101, but that's a lot of duplicative checkboxes and text and submit buttons on the sidebar, pushing the "Feedback" box down the page.
