HandyControls CoverView

I am using the CoverView to display n list of content in a grid view. So if you click on one of the coverview items it displays a grid view with a bunch of clickable items. So now my question is can I change the background of the popout window after you click on one if the coverview items? Its white at the moment and I want it to be transparent.

Another question is can I change the order of the items to only show as a list on the left side and then when I click on one of the items that the content windows pops up on the right?

If there is a better way to do this please tell me.
