Margins vary on alternate pages

This problem persisted in various incarnations of the VWP summary, the WSP summary, and
Open a document that has been generated by knitr/RMarkdown, to become a template for future Rmd output.
Go to "Layout -> Margins -> Custom"
Un-check setting for "Different Odd and Even", change:
To:
