I came here to request the same. This is the one feature I really miss in Notion (and have requested them to include). I use Notion as a zettlekasten tool and I click show backlinks all the time.

I'm the opposite, I always leave backlinks as popovers or just hide them, and I also hide discussions too. Maybe a more general feature would be setting a default customization for all pages, and you can choose whether to show backlinks and comments or not. I don't know if that's possible, but it would be nice.
