[Question]: Do I need '"All-Open" stack of the AMD GPU driver' to build and install this on Debian?

Hello,
I'd like to install this on Debian Linux. I read the install instructions, and they say I need the '"All-Open" stack of the AMD GPU driver,' to install this using the tool amdgpu-install here.

The build from source docs don't mention amdgpu-install at all here.

I'm using an AMD RX69XX GPU and kernel 6.12.X on and AMD CPU.

Do I need '"All-Open" stack of the AMD GPU driver' to build and install this on Debian?

Several points:

• Formally, Debian is not supported by AMF or by Radeon driver package. Debian and such are supported by upstreaming open-source drivers into corresponding distros. AMF is not included in the upstream as closed-source component.
• Since AMF package was separated from Radeon driver package, they installed separately. Hence, prerequisite requirement for all-open-source driver.
• This separate AMF package does not support your RX 6xxx and this installation path would not work for you. AMF GPU support follows general Radeon driver support: RX 7xxx and later.
• For legacy GPUs one can use older combined package driver + AMF as it was described here (https://github.com/GPUOpen-LibrariesAndSDKs/AMF/wiki/Driver%20Linux#legacy-instructions-driver-version--2520 ). But this install doesn't support Debian, only distros mentioned in release notes for the driver.
• The build instructions related to AMF SDK: samples and applications integrated with AMF, not AMF runtime.
• There is no reason why AMF binaries would not work on Debian except possible VCN firmware mismatch. FW comes with kernel driver and AMF comes as a separate component.
