Icons as blocks

Any chance there are plans to support FontAwesome icons inserted as standalone blocks?

It's actually quite infrequent that I'm trying to insert an inline icon, so only being able to insert an icon in the Paragraph block, and further, it being a shortcode, isn't super helpful. I'm much more frequently doing something like this:

Right now, that looks like this in the editor:

I'd love to see support for icons as blocks for more intuitive usage in the editor.

Yes, this is has been high on my own wish list for a long time.

I have worked up a prototype and a plan for how to approach it. Unfortunately, haven't had the time to get it all implemented yet.
