As you interact with the pop-up, it works exactly like a search dock, but quickly gets out of the way when you are done using it. To use the Quick Search feature, you need to set up a hotkey. Go to `File -> Settings`, then select `Hotkeys`. Find the `Opens Quick Search` field, and assign a hotkey. I find that `Ctrl + Space` works great.
